Spring has finally blessed us with her presence. Pinto Movie Night will follow suit with a beautiful and colorful ‘coming of age’ story. Throw away your books, rally in the streets follows the life of an introspective Japanse teenager as he struggles with the world of sexual taboos, hypocrisy, and social rebellion. It’s tantalizing colors and wonderfully psychedelic music makes this movie an absolute treat for the senses.

The movie is directed by Shūji Terayama, a well-known cult hero in Japan but totally unknown outside of it. Terayama nurtured above all his role as an outsider, encouraging disaffected youths to rebel against social convention. His work often incited scandal and outrage but also offered solace to those in search of their place in an increasingly homogeneous society.
All of the above reasons make this film a perfect match with the Pinto Movie Night ideology: Showing movies that deserve wider attention and spreading messages that need to be heard.
There will be room for informal discussion of the movie after the showing.

The movie is in Japanese, with English subtitles.
