THE THEATRICALITY OF THE CIRCLE SONGS

The workshop is open to singers, theatre-makers and for everyone who has an affinity with music and theatre and is willing to spend two days of full immersion!
The workshop combines the theatrical and musical worlds thanks to the use of improvisation, which is the element that plays a fundamental role in both disciplines.
Together we will work on circle songs with the great singer Joey Blake, who works for a long time with Bobby McFerrin, and explore the theatrical techniques and improvisation with Ilaria Forciniti, theatre director at Scriccioli Theatre Lab, actress and jazz singer based in Amsterdam.
The two day workshop aims to create a short montage where the circle songs will become a short theatrical performance.

BIO
Joey Blake (on ReverbNation) is a vocalist with an unmistakable style, fluid as it is unique, full of surprises and delivered with masterful grace. His instrument-like approach to the voice gives him a musical vocabulary heard only in the rarest of singers. He is one of the founding and current members of Voicestra, the a cappella ensemble created by Bobby McFerrin. He was also a founding member of Sovoso the group that spun from Voicestra.
Joey’s current projects are We Be 3, an improvisational vocal Trio comprised of himself and two other members of Voicestra, Rhiannon and Dave Worm. Back to the Band an ensemble focusing on Improvisation within the live band experience.
Joey has recorded & produced five albums for Sovoso`, (Precious - a European release, Bridges and Seasonings for the US, as well as Crack the Nut and Then and Now). He also holds numerous arranging credits to his name, including his work with SoVoSo. His discography includes recordings with Bobby McFerrin (Medicine Music, CircleSongs, Vocabularies SpirtYouAll), Kenny Loggins (Conviction of the Heart), Mickey Hart (Supralingua), to name a few. Joey also has six self-produced solo recordings, Through My Eyes, Come Inside The Circle, Songs From The Singing Soul, Reaching Back and Sung Deep.
Joey's latest recording project, “The Many Shade Of Me” will release in Nov 2017.
Joey also has an international A cappella choir representing 15 countries he calls "The Singing Tribe" the focus of all these ensembles is to model what we believe is possible in the world by functioning as an international community of people working together for one purpose, global unity!
BIO
Ilaria Forciniti begins her career working in a traditional theatre company, later she discovers the principles of the contemporary theatre, where a rigorous work on the body and voice and space are the essence of her research.
She gained a lot of experience in theatre performances and production in Italy, particularly in Rome, where she worked for one of the most popular theatres in the city, (Teatro Eliseo) and Teatro Belli. Also in Rome she has studied Theatre Studies at La Sapienza University, worked as dubber, at Videodelta Studios and attended the conservatory, jazz singing. In 2009 she attends the Umbria Jazz Festival. She received the Certificate for Outstanding Musicianship award for Jazz singing. There she met Joey Blake.
She moved to Amsterdam in 2011 where some years later Ilaria she received a master in Theaterwetenschappen by the Uva (Universiteit van Amsterdam). Le last three months of 2016, she worked as assistant-producer for Toneelgroep Amsterdam for _De Meiden_, the theatre production directed by Katie Mitchell, the outstanding theatre director from London. Since two years she works for the production of the Holland Festival.
Since 2013 she directs the Scriccioli Theatre lab, a theatre group based in Amsterdam, composed by people with different cultural and artistic background. With the group, she performed in different venues and in particular in Stedelijk Museum, Toon, Mezrab, etc.
