Sine sole sileo is a duo formed by Irene Soroźabal Moreno (voice) and Katerina Orfanoudaki (harpsichord). Their shared interest in the historical informed performance practice, as well as, in contemporary music practices and musical improvisation brought them together. They present a program formed by a combination of all these three different practices. The common theme between all of them is the female perspective and its expression. Irene and Katerina explore the different ways that female nature is given a narrative either through language and text or music. Music by Claudio Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi, Roderick de Man, and poems by Sappho (Archaic Greek poet) and Szymborska (Polish poet), will be linked between them, making a storyline which tells us of the various ways femininity is perceived and described and how this shapes us as women and performers.
Irene Sorozábal is a Spanish recorder player and singer based in Amsterdam. Her artistic creation explores the intersection between traditional music, historical performance practice, contemporary jazz and free improvisation. She sings in Cappella Amsterdam and Nederlands Kamerkoor and plays recorder in the renaissance consort The Royal Wind Music.
Katerina Orfanoudaki was born in Chania, Crete. She started her music studies at the “I. Manioudakis” Chania Conservatory and she has an inter-grated master’s degree from the Musical Department of the Ionian University with Professor Katerina Michopoulou specialising in Harpsichord performance, in the Early Music Department.
