Een uniek concert dat de rijke traditie van de contrabas viert. Het concert begint met "Da un respiro, un battito, che non finisce mai" (Van een adem, een slag, die niet eindigt) een originele compositie van Pietro Elia Barcellona. Dit stuk is een eerbetoon aan Stefano Scodanibbio en verbeeldt delen van de baanbrekende compositie "Voyage that never ends" van deze componist, in een poging een persoonlijk beeld te geven van wat deze reis met de contrabas en muziek voor Pietro betekent.
Daarna volgt een uitvoering van de Sequenza XIVb van Berio/Scodanibbio. Oorspronkelijk geschreven voor cello door Luciano Berio, werd het stuk opnieuw uitgevonden voor contrabas door Scodanibbio als een soort inkapseling van zijn werk en ontdekkingen met de contrabas.
Beide werken benadrukken de diepte en rijkdom van het geluid van het instrument en tonen de enorme sonische mogelijkheden terwijl ze de intieme ruimte van Huis de Pinto vullen.
Pietro Elia Barcellona is een Italiaanse contrabassist, componist en improvisator die actief is op het gebied van experimentele muziek. Pietro volgt momenteel het masterprogramma voor muziekuitvoering met specialisatie in hedendaagse muziek aan de Hochschule für Musik Basel. Hij studeert bij Dario Calderone.
A unique concert that celebrates the rich tradition of the contrabass. The concert will begin with an original composition by Pietro Elia Barcellona titled Da un respiro, un battito, che non finisce mai (From a breath, a beat, which never ends). This piece pays hommage to Stefano Scodanibbio and reimagines parts of the composer’s groundbreaking composition Voyage that never ends in an attempt to give a personal view of what this journey with the contrabass and music means for Pietro.
Following will be a rendition of the Sequenza XIVb by Berio/Scodanibbio. Originally written for cello by Luciano Berio, the piece was re-invented for contrabass by Scodanibbio as a sort of encapsulation of his work and discoveries with the contrabass.
Both these works highlight the depth and richness of the instrument's sound, showcasing its vast sonic possibilities as they fill the intimate space of Huis de Pinto.
Pietro Elia Barcellona is an Italian contrabassist, composer, and improviser who is active in the field of experimental music. Pietro is currently perusing a master’s degree in music performance with specialization in contemporary music at the Hochschule Fur Musik Basel and studies with Dario Calderone.
