Lezing over Moritz Daniel Oppenheim door filmmaker en auteur Isabel Gathof
De filmmaker en auteur Isabel Gathof geeft u een kijkje in het leven en werk van Moritz Daniel Oppenheim. Dit naar aanleiding van de Nederlandse première van de documentaire over deze kunstenaar.
De 'schilder van de Rothschilds en de Rothschild van de schilders' wordt gezien als een van de eerste Joodse kunstenaars van het moderne tijdperk die zijn leven lang trouw bleef aan zijn afkomst.
Oppenheim, geboren in Hanau, ontdekte al vroeg zijn talent en passie voor kunst en studeerde aan kunstacademies in Duitsland, Frankrijk en Italië. De kunstenaar schilderde scènes van het Joodse traditionele leven en dit werd een groot succes, zelfs buiten Europa. Hij raakte de afgelopen eeuw in de vergetelheid, Gathof wil zijn erfenis nieuwe aandacht geven.
Gathof werkte meer dan 4 jaar aan haar filmproject. Ze reist nu bijna 3 jaar de wereld over van filmfestival naar filmfestival met haar documentaire over Moritz Daniel Oppenheim. Vorig jaar schreef ze een boek samen met Dr. Esther Graf, die promoveerde op de genrekunst van Oppenheim. Deze avond biedt u een kijkje achter de schermen bij het tot stand komen van het boek en de film. De Nederlandse filmpremière is op 8 december, 14:30 uur in het Joods Historisch Museum Amsterdam, mis het niet!
Het evenement van 6 december is een samenwerking tussen Huis de Pinto, het Nederlands Genootschap voor Joodse Studiën (NGJS), Studievereniging Sechel en de Jonge Judaici.
Within the framework of the Dutch film premiere of the world’s first documentary dedicated to Moritz Daniel Oppenheim, filmmaker and author Isabel Gathof invites you to take an insight into the life and work of this outstanding artist.
Oppenheim – who also made history as the "painter of the Rothschilds and the Rothschilds of painters" - embodies the era of Jewish emancipation.
Born in Hanau, Oppenheim discovered his talent and passion for art in his early years and studied art in Germany, France and Italy. Oppenheim’s depictions of traditional Jewish life became a bestselling hit beyond European boarders in the 19th century. However, as Oppenheim fell into oblivion over the last century, Gathof aims to leverage his legacy.
Gathof worked on her film project for more than 4 years. She has been travelling the world from film festival to film festival with Moritz Daniel Oppenheim for almost 3 years now. Last year she wrote a book together with Dr. Esther Graf who earned her doctorate on Oppenheim’s genre art – the first book on the topic for almost 20 years. This evening offers you a behind the scenes glance on the becoming of the book and movie. Also do not miss the Dutch film premiere on December 8th, 2:30 pm at the Jewish Historical Museum Amsterdam.
The event on December 6th is a collaboration between Huis de Pinto, the Dutch Society for Jewish Studies (NGJS), Study Association Sechel and the Jonge Judaici.
